Schon bald schloss er Freundschaft mit dem neoimpressionistischen Maler Maurice Utrillo (1883 bis 1955) und dem deutschen Maler Ludwig Meidner (1844 bis 1966). Bereits früh interessierte sich Modigliani für Aktstudien und das klassische Konzept der idealen Schönheit. Seine verwundenen Kompositionen und überdehnten Figuren wurden mit denen der Manieristen der Renaissance verglichen, besonders mit Parmigianino (1503 bis 1540) und El Greco (1541 bis 1614). Für seine Aktreihen übernahm Modigliani den Aufbau vieler berühmter Akte der Hochrenaissance, darunter solche von Giorgione (etwa 1477 bis 1510), Tizian (etwa 1488 bis 1576), Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres (1780 bis 1867) und Velázquez (1599 bis 1660), vermied aber deren Romantisierung und kunstvoll dekorativen Charakter. Darüber hinaus war Modigliani auch mit den Arbeiten von Francisco de Goya (1746 bis 1828) und Edouard Manet (1832 bis 1883) vertraut – Künstler, die Kontroversen entfacht hatten, weil sie weibliche Akte realistisch malten und damit die künstlerische Konvention brachen, nach der Akte in mythologische, allegorische oder historische Szenen einzuordnen seien.

Nice Story

This story really highlights the incredible sacrifices soldiers of war gave in service to our country. Court Fielding endured a bloody battle in WWII and came home a mentally broken man. He has conversion disorder. Physically, he is fine but his mind believes his legs are paralyzed. He feels tremendous guilt that he survived and not his fellow soldiers. Widow Becky begins working at Court's house as his housekeeper. Soon her 4 year old son begins to melt Court's heart.

I enjoyed the premise of the story. However, occasionally I thought the dialogue seemed unnatural. It felt like a movie script and not everyday folks talking to each other. At times, the story dragged a little. All in all, it was a nice story.

I've read 3 books (from this series) by Rachel Druten and I've enjoyed all of them. I don't think you can go wrong with any of her books. I started "Healing Heart" last night and I ended up staying up until almost 2 am to finish it. This book can be read as a stand alone but it's also part of a series. I enjoyed this book!

Okay for a starter book for youth

For a youth book, this has potential. It is a challenge to do something deeper with God and goes beyond the usual youth "preachiness" I fear in most books that dumb it down for teens. Timm does slip into youth preacher mode a bit more than I like, but his depth is also good. He is not afraid to challenge youth to get the noise out of their lives.

For anyone else, I recommend other books that can simply help with picking up key spiritual disciplines. Timm repeats himself far too much and divides subjects up into two chapters to add unneeded length.

For youth pastors, challenge your youth with some great help. This is a good starter. Please treat it just that way.

Reading Static Jedi for the first time is like eating a spicy tuna roll at your local sushi joint for the first time. By their titles you have no idea what your in for. However, curiosity gets the best of you. What starts as an apprehensive bite explodes into an full on experience for the senses. It's seemingly simple yet profoundly satisfying! With each morsel you digest you find yourself inextricably hungry for more. Then suddenly he drops a wasabi infused revelation which leaves you laughing, crying and challenged to take another bite. Best of all...when you finish it leaves you wanting more!

I have recommended this book to literally everyone I've spoken to since I read it. It's a must read.

Eric Samuel Timm is as easy to read and as likable as Donald Miller and as thoughtful as the great authors many of us love and look up to. The pages of this book are riddled with bits humor that make it fun to read and such profound Truths that makes you keep turning the pages. He speaks from an honest place of hard earned wisdom and teaches the reader how to get there, too, by applying 5 keys to a stronger walk and faith. The way he approaches these keys is so simple yet so profound. Everything he writes of is backed by Scripture after Scripture. It challenges you and inspires you to action. It will be a book that will be around for a long time. Truths like this don't fade with fads. I look forward to reading more from this author.

I will definitely use this book for my small group Bible study as well as read it again personally. It has already sparked countless conversations among my circle.

It's a must read for teens and adults alike from those that are new to Faith and those who have been around since organs were the cool thing in church.

Es folgt ein zeitweise von Krankheit getrübtes Jahrzehnt unglaublichen Schaffens und der Skandale. In seinen Radierungen zeigt er sich als herausragender Zeichenkünstler. In seiner Malerei ist er stark von Velásquez beeinflusst und wie dieser von seinem Modell abhängig, wobei er sich einer rücksichtslosen Wirklichkeitstreue befleißigt, die gelegentlich auch in die Karikatur umschlägt. Hässlichkeit wird genau so dramatisiert wie Liebreiz und Schönheit. Seine Grafikzyklen, die Kaprizen und die Kapriolen sind aufs Sorgfältigste durchdacht und psychologische Meisterwerke. Seine “fantastischen Figuren” erfüllen uns mit einer hämischen Freude, regen unsere diabolischen Instinkte an und lassen uns erschauern. Am deutlichsten offenbar wird sein Genie in seinen Radierungen über die Schrecken des Krieges. Neben diesen Darstellungen wirkt jedes andere Kriegsbild blass und sentimental. Er konzentriert sich auf vereinzelte Szenen der Grausamkeit. Nirgendwo sonst zeigt er eine solche Beherrschung von Form und Bewegung, so dramatische Gesten und eine so gekonnte Wirkung von Licht und Dunkel wie in diesem Aufbegehren gegen die Gewalt. Doch malte er auch volksnahe Vergnügungen sowie Portraits. Vergessen wir nicht, dass dieser außerordentlich vielseitige Künstler auch das schönste spanische Aktbild, die Nackte Maja, schuf.

Burne-Jones’ oeuvre can be understood as an attempt to create in paint a world of perfect beauty, as far removed from the Birmingham of his youth as possible. At that time Birmingham was a byword for the dire effects of unregulated capitalism – a booming, industrial conglomeration of unimaginable ugliness and squalor.
The two great French symbolist painters, Gustave Moreau and Pierre Puvis de Chavannes, immediately recognised Burne-Jones as an artistic fellow traveller. But, it is very unlikely that Burne-Jones would have accepted or even, perhaps, have understood the label of ‘symbolist’. Yet he seems to have been one of the most representative figures of the symbolist movement and of that pervasive mood termed “fin-de-siecle”.
Burne-Jones is usually labelled as a Pre-Raphaelite. In fact he was never a member of the Brotherhood formed in 1848. Burne-Jones’ brand of Pre-Raphaelitism derives not from Hunt and Millais but from Dante Gabriel Rossetti.
Burne-Jones’ work in the late 1850s is, moreover, closely based on Rossetti’s style. His feminine ideal is also taken from that of Rossetti, with abundant hair, prominent chins, columnar necks and androgynous bodies hidden by copious medieval gowns. The prominent chins remain a striking feature of both artists’ depictions of women. From the 1860s their ideal types diverge. As Rossetti’s women balloon into ever more fleshy opulence, Burne-Jones’ women become more virginal and ethereal to the point where, in some of the last pictures, the women look anorexic.
In the early 1870s Burne-Jones painted several mythical or legendary pictures in which he seems to have been trying to exorcise the traumas of his celebrated affair with Mary Zambaco.
No living British painter between Constable and Bacon enjoyed the kind of international acclaim that Burne-Jones was accorded in the early 1890s. This great reputation began to slip in the latter half of the decade, however, and it plummeted after 1900 with the triumph of Modernism.
With hindsight we can see this flatness and the turning away from narrative as characteristic of early Modernism and the first hesitant steps towards Abstraction. It is not as odd at it seems that Kandinsky cited Rossetti and Burne-Jones as forerunners of Abstraction in his book, “Concerning the Spiritual in Art”.
